Mostly Hums CD Launch

The Mostly Hums are a five member group consisting of Chris Barlow (vocals/guitar), Paul Graves (lead guitar) and Andrew’Ash’ Ashworth (bass) from Rockitt 88, Drummer Trevor Wagstaff from The Convulsions, and finally Vicki Graham on Accordion/Keyboard. The outfit have been together for 10 years and tonight saw the launch party for their 4th album ‘Jump the Shark’.

Uncle Jeff – The Sun Might Shine Bright (2009)
The Sun Might Shine Bright is the new EP from Uncle Jeff following last year’s It’s all about Blood and Thunder. Having now viewed the band twice live previously, I was now excited at the prospect of hearing whether they could translate the excitement of their live sound onto CD.

Ponies 2 CD Review

Ponies – Ponies 2 (2009)
Follow-up albums are never an easy prospect; you just have to take a glance through history to see the scattered corpses of artists who have failed to live up to their initial promise. The Violent Femmes, The Stone Roses and Guns ‘N’ Roses (Especially if like me you’ve had the misfortune of hearing the risible Chinese Democracy) are just three examples. It was with this thought in mind therefore and a good deal of trepidation that I put on Ponies 2. Bettering Ponies classic self-titled predecessor was always going to be tricky.

Rockitt 88 – The Real Deal
I was doing a shift at Lancaster Library one afternoon when I got talking to Rockitt 88 bass player Andrew ‘Ash’ Montgomery. He reminded me that we had chatted previously at Morecambe Library about music and his band. He then returned some 10 minutes later to bring me a copy of this CD which I’m now reviewing, as an ‘early Christmas present’.
